Dora Emilie (Krueger) Schlender

Dora E. Schlender, age 97, of Marion, passed away Sunday evening September 27, 2015 at Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville.

Dora Emilie Schlender was born August 1, 1918 in the Town of Dupont, to the late Arthur & Ida (Begrow) Krueger. She was raised in the Town of Dupont, and later was united in marriage to Lester Schlender on January 20, 1938. The couple farmed in the Town of Dupont until their retirement in 1975. Dora and Lester loved to attend Farm Progress around the state and the camping that went along with it. In her younger years, she bowled couples locally. Her home was open to all, including eight foster care daughters that called the Schlender household home during their formative years. Dora was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion where she was active in Bible study groups, the A.LC.A Ladies, and sewing group. She was an amazing cook and put her skills to use in the church kitchen for special occasions. She will be remembered as woman of strong faith, and a loving mother.

Her step-grandchildren: Cindy (Ken) Dean, Clintonville; Linda (Brian) Dudzik, Marion; Chris Ebert, Gresham

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester; a sister Iva (Herman) Riesenberg; a brother Vernon (Lucille) Krueger; many brothers & sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, October 1, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion, with the Rev. Bradley Dokken officiating. Interment will take place at Roseland Cemetery, Town of Dupont. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Schlender family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Dora’s family would like to thank Greentree Health and Rehabilitation Center and Thedacare at Home Hospice for all of the loving care given to Dora throughout the years.
