Edward "Ed" A. Riske, age 65 of the Town of Dupont, Waupaca County, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Hennepin County, MN where he was in an accident involving his semi.
Ed was born on June 17, 1950 in the Town of Dupont as the son of the late Emil and Freida (Schneiderwendt) Riske. He graduated from Marion High School in 1968 and served his country in the United States Air Force. Besides the hard work he put in on the family farm, Ed worked a variety of jobs in his younger years, including Dupont Cheese Factory, Kuehls Storage (Clintonville), Marion Building Center, Tradewinds (Manawa) and Wausau Homes, where he even spent six months building homes in Saudi Arabia. He then worked for H.O. Wolding as an over the road truck driver for almost 35 years, having logged 3,161,099 miles. Ed was united in marriage to his best friend, Mary Stanislawski, on April 28, 1973 in Rosholt. The couple resided in Ed's family's farm home in Dupont and were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marion. Ed was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He especially loved to share time in the outdoors and at the lake with his family and grandchildren. He gave of himself and created a lot of wonderful memories for the 4-H youth as a leader, and he always enjoyed the 4-H family camp outs he and Mary hosted at the lake. You may have often found him playing ball with the kids in the yard or traveling to his grandchildren's ball games, giving grandpa coaching tips. Ed was a kind and gentle man of few words and a great listener. In recent years he enjoyed reading "The Ladybug Book" to his grandchildren and at times just puttering in his barn or sitting outside listening to nature. He will be remembered as a loving husband, an amazing dad, a patient grandfather, and a great, humorous friend.
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
and said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.
