LaVerne J. Campbell, age 91 of Clintonville, formerly of the Milwaukee area, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Shawano.
LaVerne “Vernie” Jean Campbell was born September 5, 1926 in Nicholson, WI the only daughter and youngest of five, to the late John J. & Mathilda (Heidtke) Campbell. She attended grade school in Nicholson, the family later re-located to the rural Clintonville area where Vernie graduated from Clintonville High School at age 16. She worked briefly at AAL, now Thrivent Financial, in Appleton and later moved to the Milwaukee area where she spent most of her life. Vernie worked for Square D as a supervisor in the data processing department until her retirement after over 45 years. She was a member at Capitol Drive Lutheran Church, Milwaukee for many years, where she volunteered with the Third World Handcrafting Shop, run by the church. Most recently, after moving back to Clintonville within the last two years, Vernie was a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clintonville. She was fortunate enough to be able to travel the United States extensively. An avid sports fan, Vernie always checked the scores of all of the Wisconsin professional sports teams, and she really knew her stuff. She was also honored to have met both Bart Starr and Arnold Palmer, an experience which she had never forgotten. Her heart had called her to be a servant within her family, caring for her brother and nephew when they needed it the most. Vernie loved to shop, mostly for others, but sometimes for herself; she was also proud of her family’s Irish heritage. She will be remembered for the love and compassion she showed her family and friends.
