Ray R. Pockat, age 75 of Caroline, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, July 25, 2016 at the Theda Care Medical Center in Shawano after suffering a heart attack at his home.

Ray was born on his family’s home farm in the Town of Grant, Shawano County on April 3, 1941. He was the son of the late Rueben and Esther (Radtke) Pockat. Ray graduated from Marion High School in 1959 and went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On August 24, 1963 he was united in marriage to Shirley Wendt in Split Rock. Ray drove milk truck for F.R. Buss & Company in Caroline for 10 years before farming his home farm in the Town of Grant. After leaving the farm he enjoyed working at Marion Plywood until his retirement. Ray and Shirley were current members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Leopolis. Ray was also a member of the American Legion Blashe-Peters-Tober Post #456 in Caroline. In their younger years, Ray and Shirley enjoyed polka dancing. They were even declared King & Queen of Oktoberfest in Shawano County in 1992. He had a soft spot for his dog; Meera Jo, and loved to shop.
