Robert “Bob” E. Mathews, age 87 of Embarrass, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 15, 2016 at the Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clintonville.

Robert was born on August 30, 1929 in New London, WI. He was the son of the late Robert and Ivah (Meidam) Anderson. Robert’s mother, Ivah, passed away at the time of Robert’s birth and he was raised by his adoptive parents; Jess and Selma (Anderson) Mathews, who were biologically his aunt and uncle.  He grew up in Crown Point, IN where he graduated from high school in 1948. Robert then enlisted to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1950 until his discharge in 1954. On April 14, 1956 he was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart; Mary Hann at the Holy Name Church in Cedar Lake, IN. The couple resided in Merrillville, IN while Robert worked as a millwright for Stan-Ray Corporation out of Hammond, IN for over 27 years until the plant closed. Robert and Mary then moved to Embarrass, WI where they have lived since. Robert was then employed at and later retired from Marion Plywood in Marion, WI. Robert was generally a simple and very happy man. He loved to fish, watch birds, spend time in his flower garden, golf, cut grass, collect model trains, and play a good game of cards; especially Scat, Ship-Captain-Crew, and Pinochle.

Survivors include: His Wife of over 60 years: Mary Mathews, Embarrass.

3 Daughters: Marjorie (Wayne) Ziereis, Clintonville.

                     Marie Mathews, Clintonville.

                      Michelle (Doug) Lamb, Merrillville, IN.

Grandchildren: Mitchell (Fiance Brianna Wright) Lamb, Kyle (Fiance Lauren Rzeszut) Lamb, Morgan (Jake Budde) Lamb, & Lauren (Joe Sepulveda) Lamb.

Also his great-granddaughter; Claire Michelle Lamb who was “Papa G.G.’s” sunshine.

A Sister-in-Law: Patricia Lawrence, Rushford, MN.

Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his birth parents, adoptive parents, and siblings; Gertrude Philbrick, Charles (Dolly) Anderson, & Roy (Jean) Anderson.

Robert’s memorial service will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11 AM at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, 53 N. Main Street, Clintonville, WI with Chaplain Richard Engle officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home and will be conducted by members of the American Legion Post #63, VFW Post #664, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #63 all of Clintonville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established by Robert’s family. www.eberhardtstevenson.com
