Shirley M. (Schultz) Schertz

Shirley M. Schertz, age 86 of the Town of Bear Creek, Waupaca County, passed away Thursday morning, July 6, 2017 at Atrium Maple Lane in the Town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County.

Shirley was born on August 14, 1930 in Belle Plaine as the daughter of the late Walter and Elsie (Rehe) Schultz. She grew up on Long Lake in Belle Plaine and attended Shawano High School. On September 14, 1948 Shirley was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Schertz at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bear Creek. The couple operated a dairy farm in the Town of Bear Creek and as a young woman, Shirley was employed at the Hanson Glove Factory in Clintonville for a few years. The couple sold their cows in the late 1980s and continued cash cropping for many years afterward. Shirley then established a self-pick garden and enjoyed sharing her produce with all of her customers. She was a member of the Bear Creek Lion’s Club, a sewing leader for Bell Corners 4-H Club, and enjoyed her many friendships forged through her local homemakers club. Shirley also liked taking bus trips with her friends and car rides with Bob. She loved caring for her many dogs over the years, and watching the deer, birds, and other wildlife. Shirley also liked painting and working on crafts in her spare time.

Daughter: Kathy (Bob) Bruss, Shawano.

Sons: David (Mary) Schertz, Bear Creek; Dan (Marsha) Schertz, Clintonville; Duane (Brenda) Schertz, Clintonville; Larry (Gail) Schertz, Clintonville; Randy (Sandy) Schertz, Parma, ID; & Bruce (Deanna) Schertz, Schofield.

Grandchildren: Tammy (Marty) Jacoby, Kris (Greg) Kriewaldt, Todd (Fran) Bruss, Brian (Dede) Bruss, Allison (Brad) Clark, Jesse (Maria) Schertz, Mindy (Tim) Heiman, Kolby (Katy) Schertz, Scott (Kristi) Schertz, Brooke Schertz, Robbie Schertz, Evan Schertz, Brodey Schertz, Kyle Oertel, & Nicci Oertel.

Great-Grandchildren: Trevor, Britany, Brandon, Jaelyn, Kaden, Sara, Nick, Taylin, Cade, Brantley, Lilliana, Mara, Owen, Bryton, Jon, Zeke, Cece, Brodie, Westin, Harrison, Elaina, and a baby great-granddaughter on the way.

Also a baby great-great-granddaughter on the way.

Her Sister: Joyce (Jim) Schertz, Clintonville.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter; Traci Bruss, and brothers Al Schultz & Elly Schultz.

Shirley’s memorial service will be held Monday, July 10, 2017 at 5 PM at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville with Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 3 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials for Shirley would be appreciated for the Waupaca County Humane Society.
