Melvin H. Koepke, age 87 of the Township of Deer Creek, Outagamie County, passed away Sunday May 13, 2018 at Pine Manor Health Care Center in Embarrass.
Melvin was born on the home farm in rural Shiocton on February 19, 1931 to the late Harold and Alvena (Sutton) Koepke. He graduated from Shiocton High School in 1949 and that fall he enlisted in the United States Army; serving during the Korean War in Okinawa until 1953. On September 24, 1960 he married Dona Merrill at their home church, First Lutheran, in Shiocton. Melvin loved farming, raising pigs, and planting crops. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, deer hunting, and playing sheephead. He worked at FWD Seagrave until retiring in 1994.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Dona.
5 Children: Ronald (Julie) Koepke, Freedom; Christine (Bob) Schilling, Black Creek; Randall & Russell Koepke, Shiocton; and Diane (Jon) Reopelle, Cedar Grove.
Grandchildren: Zachary (Olivia) Koepke & great-grandsons: Lincoln, Leo, & Louie, Little Chute; Danielle, Rachel, Jacob, Leah, & Sarah Koepke, Freedom; Junior & Cheyenne Schilling, Black Creek; and Boone Reopelle, Cedar Grove.
Sisters: Elaine (Gaylord) Goerl, Appleton & Rosalie (Gene) Motzer, Appleton.
Brother: Robert (Judy) Koepke, Vermillion, OH.
Sisters-in-law: Cindy Koepke, Green Bay; Denise Koepke, Abilene, TX; & Marie Merrill, Shawano.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Della (Bud) Parthie, brothers: Donald, LeRoy, Merle, Erwin, and Leslie Koepke, a brother-in-law William “Bill” Merrill, and his father-in-law & mother-in-law Don and Verna Merrill.
Melvin’s funeral service will be held Friday May 18, 2018 at 2 PM at First Lutheran Church in Shiocton with Rev. Paul Hinz officiating. Interment will follow at the Restland Cemetery in the Town of Deer Creek. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service.
