Roger Edward Henschel

July 23, 1938 ~ November 20, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Roger E. Henschel, age 79 of the Township of Union, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 20, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton.

Roger Edward Henschel was born July 23, 1938 in the Town of Union to the late Edward & Theresa (Froemming) Henschel. He attended Marble School, a one-room schoolhouse, and later attended Clintonville High School, graduating in 1956. After graduation, Roger worked for the Clark Oil Station, Clintonville; he also joined the National Guard to serve his country. Roger was united in marriage to Geraldine “Geri” Sinkewicz at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville on December 7, 1957. The couple met in high school at a lumberjack-themed party when Roger asked Geri to be his partner in a cross-cut sawing competition, which they won. He was employed by the FWD Corp., Clintonville for a time, and later started farming and never really stopped. He also sold and installed Patz farm equipment in addition to his own farming. Roger was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Symco, where he was a church elder and served as an usher. He also served the Township of Union for 20 years; first as Town Supervisor and later as Town Chairman, and also on the cemetery board. Roger also served on the Manawa Fire & Ambulance Board. He made maple syrup for over 55 years; starting with a small operation which later grew into Maplrij Farms with over 1000 taps a year. While Roger loved the outdoors and never missed a hunting season, his method of deer hunting differed a bit from the rest of the group. He wouldn’t sit in a tree stand and wait for the deer to come to him, instead, he preferred to walk through the woods and look for the deer himself. He also enjoyed fishing and taking friends and family out on the pontoon boat. Luck was usually on his side, both in friendly dice games and at the casino. Roger will be remembered as a hard-worker who would always speak his mind, as well as a loving husband, father, grandpa, & great-grandpa.
