Agnes Dorothy Elizabeth (Bowan) Meyer Kort, age 94, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2006 at Greentree Nursing Home, Clintonville, WI.
Agnes was born on June 19, 1911 in Shawano, WI as the 5th child of 14 children to John and Martha (Schultz) Bowan.
On February 27, 1930, Agnes married Byron (Barney) Meyer. They had three children, Phyllis, John, and Patricia. Agnes later moved to Milwaukee and was the head cook at a Jewish Nursing Home for 20 years. Agnes then married Ervin Kort Sr. in June of 1970 and gained a stepson, Ervin Jr. (Sonny). Agnes and Ervin retired in Clintonville, WI.
Agnes was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marion, WI. for approximately 36 years and lived by the Golden Rule throughout her life. Though Agnes's life was full of glory and pain, she believed that when life hands you a lemon you must make lemonade and preferred to look at her glass as being half full. Agnes's perseverance in life is a testimony to what a strong, thoughtful, giving, and humble child of God should be. Agnes was blessed with 3 children, 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Agnes is survived by her son John (Joyce) Meyer of Neenah and her daughter Patricia (Gene) Wetzel of Marion, Step daughter-in-law, Kathy Kort of Appleton, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Bowan, two husbands, Byron (Barney) Meyer and Ervin Kort Sr., her daughter Phyllis (Hamilton) Thies, her stepson Ervin (Sonny) Kort Jr., and is the last to join her 13 siblings in heaven. Agnes was also preceded in death by 3 granddaughters, Patti Wetzel, Jean Wetzel, Kathy (Hamilton) Harris, 1 grandson, John Meyer, Jr., 1 great-granddaughter, Patricia (Trisha) Britzke, 3 great-grandsons, Joseph & Quentin Bartels, Ryan Pethke, and 1 great-great granddaughter Keelyn Schactschneider.
Services will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marion on Thursday, May 18, 2006. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. until the service begins at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Girotti and Deacon Donald Wetzel presiding. Beil-Didier Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
