Betty Stiefel Obituary

Betty K. Stiefel, age 82 of Clintonville, WI passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at her home. She died unexpectedly and quickly of a cardiac event. She passed away doing what she loved: being outside, keeping busy, and caring for other people and animals.

She was born on May 24, 1941 in Hartford, WI to parents George Kraeuche and Delores Horst. After her mother died, her father married Verna Tomczak. Betty was the eldest of 9 girls growing up on a dairy farm in northern Wisconsin. She worked hard on the farm doing her chores and taking care of her sisters. She graduated from Bruce High School with straight A’s, and moved to Milwaukee where she attended Mt. Sinai Hospital Nursing School and practiced nursing. She met her future husband, William there. She married William Stiefel on May 20, 1964, and moved to the Green Bay area where she would reside for many years to raise her family.

Betty was a kind and loving woman, devoted to family and friends, both human and animal. She put others before herself when volunteering and supporting the arts. She enjoyed gardening and watching the wildlife feeding in the yard she cultivated. She was generous helping others, always contributing humbly. She was active in many local organizations and often took on leadership positions. Some of the organizations she was involved in include: Service League of Green Bay, Green Bay Montessori School, City of Hope, Pamiro Opera Company, Green Bay Symphony Guild, Peninsula Music Festival, Peninsula Art School, NE Wisconsin Arts Council. Betty worked at the family business, Stiefel's Clothing, and had a nursing career spanning decades from Mt Sinai in Milwaukee, to Bellin Hospital and Rennes Nursing Home in the Green Bay area.

Betty is survived by her four children: John (Maria), James, Elisabeth (Paul) Erhardt, and William (Sarah), her grandchildren Nicholas and Liesl, Leah and Grace, and her beloved cat Tommy. She is further survived by her sisters Dianne Burcyzk, Judy (Harold) Beise, Susan Kuester, Karen Kraeuche, Mary Ann Kraeuche, Barb (Gary) Anderson, and Laurie Zastrow, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and step-mother, her aunt Gloria and uncle Floyd Luedtke, her sister Jane (Louis) Corwin, and her former husband William.
