Carol J. Steinberg, age 80 of the Town of Matteson, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, December 24, 2020 at Care Partners Assisted Living, Clintonville.
Carol Jean Steinberg was born January 27, 1940 in Embarrass, WI, daughter to the late Leonard & Evelyn (Berndt) Schmidt. She was a 1958 graduate of Clintonville High School. Carol was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Steinberg at Zion Lutheran Church, Embarrass on June 1, 1963. Carol loved her Lord and was dedicated to her church. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, directed choir, and helped with lady's aid. She was a record-breaker cookbook collector and enjoyed planning and cooking elaborate meals. She was a talented ceramic painter, card shark, candy maker, and QVC shopper. Carol had a heart of gold. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and wife. Her favorite place to relax was at the cottage, looking at the lake, swimming, and fishing. Carol's humor brightened our lives and made us all see the humor in the world.
Carol is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard “Dick” Steinberg
Daughters: Carrie (Chris) Merholtz, Clintonville; Melissa (Keith) Eid, Bayfield; & Holly (Jay) Fentress, Eau Claire
8 Grandchildren & 6 Great-grandchildren
Brother: Stanley Schmidt, Embarrass
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Marie Schmidt.
A private funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Embarrass, with the Rev. Todd Jerabek officiating. Interment will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Embarrass.
The family wishes to thank Compassus Hospice and the staff of Care Partners, Clintonville, for all of the special care shown to Carol.
A gathering of family and friends may be held at a later date once COVID concerns are lifted.
Due to allergy concerns, in lieu of flowers, memorials in Carol’s name are preferred to be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, Embarrass.
The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville is assisting the Steinberg family with the arrangements.
