Charles "Charlie" Schwan Obituary

Charles F. Schwan, age 82 of the Township of Dupont, passed away late Friday night May 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.

Charles “Charlie” Fred Schwan was born October 16, 1940 in Caroline, WI, son to the late Carl & Selma (Koepke) Schwan. He attended Marion High School and was later employed as a welder at Marion Body Works. Charlie then started working at the Marion Milling feed mill. He was united in marriage to Carol Hehner on May 12, 1962 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion. Shortly after they were married, Charlie had the opportunity to purchase Marion Milling and did so; owning and operating the business with his brothers until 2009. He served for over 45 years as a volunteer with the Marion Area Fire Dept., really enjoying helping people and making life-long friends. He really enjoyed polka music and in his younger years, they would go out and enjoy live polka bands in the area. The family owned a cottage up north on Enterprise Lake and many weekends were spent relaxing, fishing, and enjoying family time. Deer hunting with family and friends was a great tradition every year; a time to let loose, enjoy the outdoors, and share a beverage or two. It was well known that Charlie could never pass up sweets when they were offered; he especially looked forward to his Snickers, and other candy bars at Christmas time. Over the years, he had opportunities to travel quite a bit; from Alaska to Florida and some fishing trips to Canada. Charlie will be remembered for his friendly, laid back personality, and could always strike up a conversation with anyone.
