Chloe L. Witt, age 82 of Clintonville, passed away Saturday evening March 23, 2024 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Neenah.
Chloe Lee Witt -- who taught two generations of elementary students in Horicon, then returned to her home town of Clintonville – died overnight March 23. She was 82 and had survived a stroke, two hip replacements and a six-month struggle with Covid.
Chloe cherished both towns; she loved small-town Wisconsin, lakeside summers and, of course, the Green Bay Packers.
She was born in the New London hospital (on Feb. 20, 1942), but grew up in Clintonville. Her grandfather worked at the Four Wheel Drive, as did her father LeRoy Hughes – who met her mother (the former Orlene Nelson, from Minneapolis) at the Methodist Church, where they continued to be active members.
Chloe was busy in the church, Job’s Daughters, the Girl Scouts, the school band and more. In addition to the Packers, she was enthusiastic about the Braves, who moved to Milwaukee when she was 11; she celebrated their World Series title at 15, plus the many Packers titles..
A gregarious person, Chloe liked having friends at the cottage her grandfather built on Long Lake, where she was an avid water skier.
She was an excellent student, graduating from Clintonville High in 1960. She went to college in Stevens Point and then graduated from Oshkosh, where she met Robert Witt.
They married and moved to Horicon, where they had two sons, Robert (Robb) and Tony. Chloe taught elementary classes in Horicon for over 30 years, adding a Master’s Degree. She retired in 2002 and moved back to Clintonville. There, she lived near her mother -- both remained busy in the church – and entertained friends (from Horicon and Clintonville) and family at the cottage.
Chloe is survived by her sons – Robb, in Rockford, IL, married to Diana and Tony, in Clintonville. She is also survived by her former husband Robert and by six grandchildren -- Esperanza, Cynthia, Brycen, Kaeden, Paola, and Manny. Also, by her brother, Mike Hughes, of Haslett, MI, and cousin, Dale Reisewitz, of Eagan MN.
