Christopher Bains Obituary

Christopher A. Bains, Town of Matteson, lost his hard-fought battle with cancer on December 13, 2019 with his family by his side. Chris was born in Bethesda, MD on March 19, 1952. He attended grade school in Milwaukee and moved to Clintonville, WI for his high school years. Chris’ parents owned property and a cottage on Berry Lake where Chris spent summers during his childhood. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he acquired a National Defense Service Medal and many top gun awards.

After leaving the service he moved to Berry Lake, WI where he married Deborah Stefans on April 5, 1975. After three years residing at Berry Lake, Chris and his wife moved to Clintonville.

Chris was an avid outdoorsman: loving all kinds of hunting including deer, turkey, pheasant and bear. For everyone who knew Chris, he was far from normal when it came to pets, including raising pet bears and raccoons.  He enjoyed bass fishing and was formerly a member of the Shawano Bassmasters.  He also enjoyed running setlines on the Wolf and Embarrass Rivers. Chris over the years became much involved with dog training with such breeds as the German wirehair pointers, labs, and hounds for hunting. He participated in many dog trials with much success including the National Bird Dog Challenge Association, Little Wolf River Houndsmen Club and Wisconsin Sporting Dogs Association. Chris was a member of the Restless Riders Horse Club competing in fun shows and relaxing on the trail rides. He was an accomplished downhill skier and earned his black belt in karate.

He worked as a master welder, assembler, and supervisor for Metso formerly known as Nordberg, moved onto Schutt Industries, and finished his career at Seagrave in Clintonville.

Chris is survived by his loving wife Deborah Bains, his two daughters Stacy Bains Jepson (Les) and Megan Bains Porath (Dan), his mother Dawn Ehlert Bains, his sisters Gretchen Bains Anderson and Leigh Ann Bains, his brother Patrick K. Bains (Andrea), his four grandchildren; Arianna Jepson, Zachary Jepson, Jackson Porath and Mason Porath. Chris is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Richard R. Bains, and two of his brothers, Richard L. Bains II (Roxi) and Brian G. Bains.

Chris’ memorial mass will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 2 PM at St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville with Fr. Tim Shillcox officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday starting at 12 PM. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Clintonville American Legion Post #63, VFW Post #664, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #63. In lieu of flowers Chris’ family would appreciate memorials for Shadows on the Wolf. They’d also like to thank the staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice and the Cancer Team for the wonderful care they provided.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
