Douglas Jensen Obituary

Douglas L. Jensen, age 74 of Marion, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at his home.

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Jensen announce his passing at home, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. Douglas Lee Jensen was born on April 11, 1948, to Kermit Jensen and Ada Jensen (Rohde). Doug was a lifelong farmer with a love for the land. He took pride in running the family farm for over forty-five years. His journey into farming was not by choice, but by necessity. When Doug was sixteen years old, his father Kermit passed away. A high school student was instantly turned into the head of the house, who was responsible for a family business and his mother’s livelihood. He often spoke about the kindness of others and the community when he started this journey. If it wasn’t for very kind people, the Jensen farm would have never prospered. Being a teenager was no longer an option, but he did find time to do some of the things he loved with his lifelong friend, Doug Brandenburg.  Doug was considered his brother. Through their lifelong brotherhood they supported each other though marriage, children, cars, trips, and even a bit of heartache. Tall tales and laughs were always plentiful when these two were together. Another lifelong friend of Doug’s was Bill Bowers, who he always enjoyed a good laugh and adventures with. Doug was a friend to many, and he was grateful for all his friendships that brought him joy throughout his life.

Some of Doug’s other hobbies, including hunting trips out west, fishing trips to Canada, gun deer hunting, and planting crops in the spring. He also enjoyed these last few years of retirement, watching his youngest granddaughter, Morgan, play softball. Doug loved talking about his cars. He enjoyed working on them, driving them, and in his younger years drag racing in Kaukauna where he kept the local law enforcement entertained with his antics. Doug was an avid bowler with over fifty years of dedication, even participating in national tournaments in Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada. Doug played in softball leagues for over thirty years, where many lifelong friends were made. He passed his love of the sport onto his daughter, Tracy and granddaughter, Morgan. Doug will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who tinkered around the farm, always fixing something, watching sports, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Doug did give back to the community that helped him by being a member and President of the Marion School Board for many years. He was also a member of the Caroline Lions and Saint John’s Lutheran Church.

Doug is survived by his special friend Shirley Daun, three children; daughters: Jodi (Todd) Beyersdorf & Tracy (John) Schwartz; and son, Aaron Jensen. Doug had four grandchildren, Alyssa Robinson (Nathan Nueske), Ash Beyersdorf, Alex Beyersdorf, and Morgan Schwartz.

He is further survived by his sisters, Judy (David) Polzin and Joan Guenther. Two nephews, Mark Polzin, Brian (Patty) Polzin, and niece, Amy Guenther (Kris Betow).

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion, with the Rev. Lois Graper officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Roseland Cemetery, Township of Dupont.

Visitation will take place Tuesday at the church from 9 AM until the time of service.

The family would like to thank ThedaCare hospice, especially Kristy Crum, Jolene, Molly, Shannon, and Katie for their kind, loving care. A special thanks to Carrie LeNobel for the positive outlook and care you provided to Doug during his treatments.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made for memorials in Doug’s name at a future time.
