Duwayne "Bucky" Radies Obituary

Duwayne “Bucky” Carl Radies passed away peaceful Sunday, October 3, 2021 with family members surrounding him at ThedaCare Neenah Medical Center.

Bucky will be most remembered as the town maintenance person for Town of Grant. He worked 33 years doing everything from sanding, plowing snow and grading roads in addition to anything else related to keeping the town maintained. He was born at Stevens Point Hospital on November 14th, 1940 along with his twin sister to Clarence and Erna (Fetter) Radies. He lived his childhood and early adult years on the farm near Big Falls. Bucky met Janis Voigt at a Pigeon High School basketball game. They married on September 21, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Town of Grant. And of course as was the right of passage in those days their wedding reception was at the Caroline Ballroom. Bucky and Janis made their home in Caroline for the rest of their lives. In 1972 a daughter, Tracy, joined the family and in 1976 another daughter, Kelli was born. Many cats (Tiger, Pepper, Two Ton, Boots, Vinnie, Jr and Honey) were part of the family. Janis and Bucky also raised a batch of ducklings that were orphaned one spring. They were raised in the kitchen sink, tub and graduated to a kitty pool in the backyard. Bucky was a lover of all animals. During this time, Bucky was a Caroline Little League coach where he was the coach for the winning little league championship in 1964. His love of baseball was shown as he was one of the managers of the Caroline Cougars and played from the 60s to the 80s. Many Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons were spent at the ball diamond. Once he retired from baseball he spent many weekends fishing and having a Kessler or two up at their cabin in Nelma WI. He served on the Town of Grant Fire Department for 50 years and served as Assistant Fire Chief. He was also an EMT. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline where he served as an usher for many years. Currently he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion. Janis and Bucky visited their daughter Kelli in Centennial, Wyoming. He would fish and visit with new friends at The Friendly in Centennial. He was a shuttle driver for the Centennial Cross-Country Ski Poker Run taking participants up and down the mountain. He also enjoyed taking Kelli’s dog Margie for car rides. After retirement he was often seen riding his moped around the area visiting and looking for asparagus. Janis and Bucky took a once in a lifetime moped trip directly up to the cabin with friends Jim and Michelle. They also took their mopeds into the UP a few times. He was also part of the coffee klatch at Caroline Kountry Mart with many retired men of the area. He also spent many days and weeks hunting. In his younger years he bear hunted in the township of Alvin along with many hunting and fishing buddies who he have now joined him in Heaven. Bucky also enjoyed deer hunting at the land in Big Falls with his brother-in-law, Marv, nephew, Ray, and son-in-law Todd along with numerous friends throughout the years.

Bucky is survived by his wife Janis, daughters Tracy (Todd) Conradt and Kelli (Tony Thunker) Radies, grandchildren Chance and Edison Thunker, sisters Donna (Marv) Schommer and his twin sister Elayne (Jim) Emmons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Chris and Ruth Voigt, nephew Ray Schommer and many aunts and uncles.
