Enid E. Krueger, age 84, of Cottage Grove, formerly of Clintonville, WI, passed away peacefully March 15, 2021 at Capri Memory Care in Cottage Grove, WI.
Enid Esther (nee Mike) Krueger was born July 4, 1936 to Willmar and Esther (Heikkinen) Mike in Alexandria, MN. Enid enjoyed her childhood on the Mike family farm in Holmes City, MN with her many siblings, where she attended school from 1st through 8th grade. She graduated from Alexandria High School and later Concordia University. She became a teacher, eventually moving to Clintonville, WI, where she met Gerald Krueger and was united in marriage on June 11, 1961 at St. Martin Lutheran Church. They had four children– James, Thomas, Katherine and Daniel. She took time off from teaching to raise her growing family, but later served as an assistant teacher for elementary special needs students for over 25 years.
Enid was very proud of her Finnish heritage. Nevertheless, she was an American, born on the 4th of July and she never stopped celebrating her and her country’s birth – and the red, white and blue. She enjoyed family vacations: summers in Alexandria, MN, bible/fishing trips in Red Lake, Ontario, a trip to Finland with family and parents to visit relatives, and Alaska with Gerry. Enid’s favorite pastimes included spending time with siblings/children/grandchildren in and around the Alexandria homestead, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing Bingo, reading and singing hymns, carols and nursery rhymes from her youth. Enid was a favorite of the staff at the Capri Memory Care Facility where she lived in the years after Gerry’s death. Enid’s love of family, playful nature, incredible sweetness, laughter, and Sisu will live in our hearts forever.
