Frances I. Shest, age 93, Tigerton, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, at her home. Frances was born on July 5, 1930, in Tigerton, the daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Fuhrman) Spiegel.
On November 13, 1948, she married Anton “Tony” Shest at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. They were married 55 years and had five children: Steven, Noreen, Nancy, Michael, and Mark. Tony preceded Frances in death on June 19, 2004.
Frances was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. Frances was a founding member of the Split Rock Homemakers group, established in 1956. In May 2011, she was recognized as a “Living Treasure” by the Shawano County Aging Unit for her personal contributions to the community through her work and volunteer activities.
Frances is survived by: her daughters, Noreen (Steve) Hintz and Nancy (Bill) Kurtz, and sons, Michael (Judith) Shest and Mark (Mary) Shest. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; son, Steven; and brothers, Arthur (Dora) Spiegel, Albert (Ebba) Spiegel, and Harvey (Martha) Spiegel.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton, with Pastor Dean Suehring officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery, Tigerton will follow the service. Visitation will be on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton.
