Gary G. Henning

Gary G. Henning, age 76 of the Town of Union, Waupaca County passed away peacefully at the ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton on Friday afternoon, December 20, 2019 with his sons and friends by his side.

Gary was born on March 19, 1943 as the son of the late Leonard and Dorothy (Starcheska) Henning in New London. He graduated from Manawa’s Little Wolf High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On August 9, 1969 Gary was united in marriage to JoAnne Thurk at the United Methodist Church in Manawa. Gary was a master craftsmen and perfectionist at carpentry, woodworking, and custom home building for over 40 years.  He was the owner of Henning Home Builders Inc. and an accomplished builder of dozens of homes in the Waupaca Chain of Lakes area.  Gary was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manawa his entire life, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He was also a proud patriot, a member of the Manawa American Legion Post #226, and an ardent fund raiser for the Veterans Memorial in Manawa. Gary enjoyed camping with JoAnne on the Chippewa Flowage near Hayward and traveling out west with his dog Buck. In his spare time, Gary kept busy building special projects as requested by his granddaughters, dining out at the Pine Tree Supper Club, and taking care of his dogs. He was a wonderful father, role model, and mentor to his sons, who will now join his loving wife JoAnne in their Heavenly Home.

Granddaughters: Olivia & Amelia Henning.

A Brother: Robert Henning.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his wife JoAnne.

Gary’s funeral service will be held Friday, December 27, 2019 at 11 AM at the United Methodist Church in Manawa with Rev. Steve Rice officiating. Military honors will be conducted outside of the church. Interment will be at the Union Cemetery in Symco in the spring. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9 AM until the time of the service.
