Gerald “Jerry” Carl Sasse, age 81 of Clintonville was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Gerald was born on May 4, 1944, the son of the late Jule and Annie (Kittleson) Sasse. He was born in Clintonville where he grew up with his brothers and sisters. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1962. Jerry attended UW Stevens Point for a year then worked at the Co-op and FWD Seagrave prior to entering the U.S. Army in May of 1964. He was stationed out of Ft. Bragg, NC. Jerry spent a year in Germany and 2 tours of duty in Vietnam; serving in the special forces returning from Vietnam in May of 1968. Jerry was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Kroll on June 22, 1968 at Christus Lutheran Church where as a lifelong and faithful member he served as an usher for over 50 years. The couple resided in Clintonville their entire married life. Gerald resumed working at FWD Seagrave where he remained for 46 ½ years until his retirement. Jerry and Mary were blessed with 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-granddaughters; all of whom were the greatest joys of his life. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman and even trapped in his younger years. He also enjoyed a good card game, especially sheephead and cribbage with an occasional cold beer. He also enjoyed Friday night fish fries with his wife for many years. Jerry was a lifetime member of VFW Post #664 where he served several offices and worked for various activities.
Survivors include: His Wife of 57 years: Mary Sasse.
Children: Timothy Sasse, Sarah (Robert) Pinno, Thomas Sasse, and Rebecca (Darryl) Craig.
Grandchildren: Zephyr, Daijanae, & Christopher Sasse, Stephanie (Steven) Hidde, Cole Pinno, and Isaac & Megan Craig.
Great-Granddaughters: Nora, Maggie, & Olivia Hidde.
His Sister: Carol (Ed) Kettner.
Brothers-in-law & Sisters-in-law: Patricia Osmuss, John (Linda) Kroll, Thomas (Margaret) Kroll, and Jean (Robert) Harris.
Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Jule and Annie Sasse, in-laws Norman and LaVada Kroll, a step-granddaughter Rachel (Victoria) Taylor, sisters Blanche (Richard) Burger & June (Roger) Gensler, brothers Ralph (Mary, Edie) Sasse, Lyle (Trudy) Sasse, Donald Sasse, Robert (Joyce, Justine) Sasse, & David Sasse, and a brother-in-law Gerald Osmuss.
Gerald’s Memorial Service will be held Thursday August 28, 2025 at 11am at the Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville with Rev. Shelly Klemp officiating. Inurnment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville with military honors conducted by members of the Clintonville VFW Post #664, American Legion Post #63, D.A.V. Chapter #53, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #53. Lunch will follow the burial back at church. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated for Christus Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. A special thank you to everyone from Moments Hospice and all who took such good care of Jerry at Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center.
