Henry Grunewald Obituary

Henry G. Grunewald, age 64 of the Township of Pella, passed away on Thursday January 6, 2022 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton.

Henry “Hank” Gust Grunewald was born in Clintonville on November 10, 1957, son to the late Gustave R. & Virginia A. (Pevonka) Grunewald. He attended school in Marion and graduated with the M.H.S. class of 1977. He farmed with Andrew Pockat for a time, and later worked at Marion Hardware. Henry was united in marriage to Carol J. Pluger at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion on June 9, 1979. Then he farmed again full time, later starting work with Town and Country Drywall. After a while, he set out on his own, starting his own business called Hank’s Drywall. He hung drywall locally for over 30 years. He officially retired, but never really stopped working; drywall side jobs and helping local farmers with the fall harvest, kept him very busy. Hank was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pella. He loved being out in the woods hunting deer and coyotes, but bear most of all. Hank helped start the group, Pipeline Bear Hunters, Crooked Lake, WI, and was very active in the organization. He could chat your ear off about bear hunting non-stop, and enjoyed time sharing his passion with family and friends. Spending time at the camper on the land up north near Crooked Lake was something Henry always enjoyed; they also hunted and fished up there. His 2.5 acre vegetable garden was always impressive and he shared it’s bounty locally, and to patrons up north. He had fun the past 15 years volunteering alongside the Caroline Lions Club to clean up after the event; also a great excuse to visit with friends. Henry and Carol cherished spending time with friends up in Rhinelander at the Hodag Country Music Festival; they haven’t missed one in the last 25 years. He tapped his hardwood trees every year to make maple syrup, and also attended many ice-fishing derbys, his favorite event at Harpts Lake. His heart of gold and his happy-go-lucky personality, made him the perfect person to help others in need. If you’ve met Hank, you’d never forget him.

Henry was survived by his loving wife of 42 years: Carol

Daughter: Katie Ann N. Grunewald, Pella

Siblings: William (Iris) Grunewald, Caroline; Mary Zahn, Clintonville; Margaret (Terry) Gott, Antigo; Julie Grunewald, Caroline; & Edward Grunewald, Shawano
