Joan M. Christensen, age 83 of Bear Creek passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones Sunday morning May 26, 2024 at the ThedaCare Medical Center in New London.
Joan Marie Finger was born on September 15, 1940 as the daughter of the late Marion and Almira (Young) Finger. She graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1960. On October 14, 1961 Joan was united in marriage to Leroy Christensen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bear Creek. The couple moved to the Nekoosa area for a few years prior to moving back to Bear Creek where they raised their three children. Joan was a life-long faithful member of St. Mary’s Parish where she was active with the Christian Mothers, church choir, bereavement ministry, and assisted with bringing communion to homebound parishioners. Joan worked for Simmons and Flanagan Bros, among other places, and often helped her brothers planting cabbage. Her faith was always at the forefront helping her focus on her family and home. In her spare time Joan enjoyed fishing with Leroy, entertaining family and friends, cooking and baking for her family.

Her Children: Jeff (Rena) Christensen, Jeannie (Dennis) Zietlow, & Colleen (Mike) Roberts.
Grandchildren: Zachary (Yi Ren) Christensen, Anastassia (Curtis) White, Daniel Christensen, Tyler Klegin, Tiffany (Clint) Schroeder, Stephanie (Justus) McKenzie, Megan (Jacob) Orvedahl, & Mitchell (Cambria) Roberts.
Great-Grandchildren: Elyse & Ava Orvedahl, Oliver & Thea Schroeder, Matthias McKenzie, Henry White, and 3 more on the way.
Sisters: Sr. Michelle Finger, Verna Stilen, & Karen (Don) Sorensen.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leroy in 2014, siblings Bernice (Rolland) Vollmer, Eunice (James) Lehman, Duane (Maude) Finger, & Leon (Carol) Finger, and by a brother-in-law James Stilen.
A visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bear Creek on Saturday, June 1st from 9am until the time of service. A funeral service of Christian Burial will be held at 11am with Deacon Joseph Lehman officiating. Interment will take place at the parish cemetery following the service. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory of Clintonville is assisting her family and will record the service on their Facebook page.
