Kenneth "Ken" McCarten Obituary

Kenneth W. McCarten, age 80 of Shawano, passed away early Tuesday morning July 23, 2024 at Cherry Meadows Hospice Facility, Appleton.

Kenneth “Ken” William McCarten was born April 27, 1944 in Chicago, IL, son to the late Kenneth James & Dorothy Elizabeth (King) McCarten. He attended Wells High School in Chicago and graduated with the class of 1962. As a young man, Ken was the Battle Group Commander with his R.O.T.C. unit and was on a path to join the military. Instead, he started working in the tool and die department with manufacturing businesses. He was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Giustino on January 11, 1964 at Santa Maria Addolorata Catholic Church, Chicago. He worked for many years with Walker Forge as superintendent of the tool and die division. Ken was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shawano; as well as an active member of the Knights of Columbus volunteering for many pancake feeds over the years. Ken and Beverly enjoyed going on cruises to places like Mexico, The Bahamas, and Italy. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, bowling, and shooting pool in his younger years. Playing cards, most notably Pinochle, was something Ken enjoyed and was quite good at, as the family remembers him playing competitively when the deck of cards was dealt. Working with his hands was what Ken was best at, his woodworking projects in his spare time and completing projects for others, all passed the time in his later years. Ken will be remembered for his intelligence, the way he could make people laugh, his good nature, and his willingness to help anyone in need.
