Lois Gehrt Obituary

Lois L. Gehrt, age 94 of Embarrass, passed away on Monday morning, August 10, 2020, at The Summit in Mesa, Arizona.

Lois was born on December 4, 1925 in the Town of Belle Plaine, to the late August and Emma (Brandt) Schmidt. She attended the River Bank School in the Town of Belle Plaine through grade school. Lois was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. In Embarrass Lois worked at the Embarrass State Bank, the Post Office and Ruth’s Grocery Store. Next Lois worked at the phone company in Milwaukee. On July 12, 1947, Lois was united in marriage to Robert Gehrt at Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. Their first son Gene was born in Clintonville in 1948. After moving to Appleton she worked at the Hammond Organ Studio as a receptionist and sales representative. Their second son Brad was born in 1958. During their long and happy marriage, Bob and Lois moved many times, including living in California, Illinois and Wisconsin. During this time Lois raised her family and worked at Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in Chicago Heights, Illinois as manager of their bridal department. After retirement, Bob and Lois returned home to Embarrass. For the last 31 years they also enjoyed being snow birds in Arizona. They were active members of Mountain View Lutheran Church in Apache Junction. Lois was an excellent organist and enjoyed playing many musical instruments. Other hobbies included camping and fishing, arts and crafts, sewing, quilting and decorating their many homes inside and out.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 73 years, Robert Gehrt; their children, Gene (Jane) Gehrt of Gold Canyon, Arizona and Brad (Diane) Gehrt of Ripon; 3 grandchildren, Kristy (Phil) Pryor and Jenny (David) Payne of Tennessee and Cory (Morgan) Gehrt of Appleton; 6 great-grandchildren, Allie and Kelsey Payne, Zoe and Ava Pryor, and Carter Woody and Lilly Gehrt. Lois is also survived by her brother, Willard (Maggie) Schmidt of Green Bay and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Mabel Fehrman, Howard Schmidt, Harvey Schmidt, Hazel Krubsack, Leonard Schmidt and Agnes Buchert; and special nephews, Lyle and Alvin Fehrman.

Special thanks to the caretakers and management of The Summit in Mesa Arizona who provided loving and compassionate care to Lois.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, Lois’ funeral will be held privately for her family only, but the public is invited to attend her committal service at 10 AM on Monday, August 17, 2020 at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Embarrass with Rev.
