Mavis Kubitz Obituary

Mavis J. Kubitz, age 90 of the Village of Howard, formerly of the Town of Larrabee, Waupaca County passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at her home.

Mavis Jean Wenzel was born on March 24, 1936 in Shawano as the daughter of the late Carl and Viola (Schoenick) Wenzel. She was confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church and graduated from Shawano High School in 1954. Mavis met Wayne Kubitz at the Caroline Ballroom which continued into a few rollerskating dates. Not too long after that, Wayne sold one of his cows to buy Mavis a ring and the couple were wed on November 17, 1956 at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. They resided in Green Bay where Mavis worked at Shopko for over 27 years and picked strawberries from their garden to sell while at work. She was an excellent bowler and enjoyed playing in leagues with Wayne while in Green Bay. After retiring in 1995, the couple moved to the Town of Larrabee, just outside of Clintonville where they became faithful members of St. Martin Lutheran Church. Mavis was active at church with the Ladies Aid and often helped serve funeral meals. She occasionally enjoyed deer hunting with family on their land and always had a thing for cardinals. Mavis will be remembered for her love of her family and for her strong Christian faith.
