Mayford Mengert Obituary

Mayford D. Mengert, age 92 of the Town of Grant, passed away late Monday night, September 5, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mayford DuWane Mengert was born January 23, 1930 near Manawa, WI, son to the late Otto W. & Laura N. (Buchholz) Mengert. He worked on the family dairy farm as a kid and later graduated from Manawa High School. Mayford worked for Walnut Grove Feed Sales for a time as a salesman. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Haas at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Symco on August 13, 1960. The couple moved to the Marion area where they have lived since. Mayford worked for Marion Body Works for about 12 years, after which he started his own cattle trucking service called Mengert Trucking. After 17 years of cattle trucking, Mayford retired. He was an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion. He really felt at home in the outdoors, fishing for as many fish as felt like cleaning, hunting for turkey and deer, and camping. The family enjoyed their spots up at Post Lake, Rolling Stone Lake, and Echo Valley Campground up by Mountain. He was a natural at card games, most notably, Hand and Foot as well as Smear. Faith and family was always important to Mayford. He never failed to do his daily devotions and the strength of his faith was evident to those around him. He will be remembered for his sweet tooth when it came to baked goods, and the love that he had for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary
Sons: Jeffrey (Beth) Mengert, Marion & Rick (Tracey) Mengert, Marion
