Norman F. Young, age 93 of Marion passed away Thursday evening May 16, 2024 with his family at his side at the WI Veterans Home in King, WI.
Norman Francis Young was born in the Town of Deer Creek, Outagamie County on July 31, 1930 as the son of the late Benjamin and Androse (Lyons) Young. As a young man he served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and in the Army Reserves from 1953 – 1957. Norman was united in marriage to Joan Otto and the couple had 3 children. In 1972 they moved to the Marion area and in 1976 Joan preceded Norman in death. He was later united in marriage to Carol Brown on May 20, 1978 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marion. As a member of St. Mary’s Norman enjoyed serving as an usher and visiting with his fellow parishioners. He worked mainly as a self-employed carpenter in the area, owned and operated Young’s Tap in Marion, and spent time as a welder at FWD Seagrave in Clintonville retiring in 1995. Norman and Carol moved to Phelps for many years prior to moving back to Marion in 2005. Norman was a proud member of VFW Post 8770 for many years. He enjoyed woodworking; especially using his scroll saw making decorations. Norman built log beds and furniture and liked reading westerns. He looked forward to fishing trips and riding his moped around town. Norman loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and would light up when given the opportunity to spend time with them.
Survivors include: His Children: Dennis (Shirley) Young, Charlotte (Steve) Heuer, & Jackie Stuhr.
Grandchildren: Joe (Missy) Stuhr, Joanne (Lance) Bunnell, Matthew (Suzanne) Heuer, Eric (Julie) Young, Shannon Young, & Adam (Kailey) Young.
Great-Grandchildren also known as his special “Pippets”: Jaden & Ella Stuhr, Joshua Champman-Stuhr, Lyla, Ava, Jake, and Julia Bunnell, Evelyn, Clara, and Dallas Heuer, Gavin, Garret, and Grayson Young, McKenna Young & Landyn Luederman, Declan, Oden, Briggs, and baby on the way Young.
Great-Great-Grandson: Princetin Norman Young.
Step-Children: Karen (Robert) Mundt, Linda (Steven) Tryba, & Alvin Young.
Step-Grandchildren: Kristine Mundt, Brian Routhieaux, Mollie White, Melissa (Zachary) Boeckman, & Michael Young.
Brothers: Gerald Young, Eugene (Lorraine) Young, & Ben (Kathy) Young.
Brother-in-law: Lyle (Barb) Otto.
Sister-in-law: Beverly Joosten
Also many nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan in 1976, wife Carol in 2023, son-in-law Bruce Stuhr, grandson Joshua Stuhr, brothers Eldren (Ruth), Loren (Joyce), Nathan (Kay) Young, sister Phyllis (Jim) Ourada, and brother in law Richard Joosten.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Norman on Wednesday May 22, 2024 at 11am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marion with Fr. Matthew Settle officiating. Military honors will be conducted outside of the church by members of the VFW Post 8770 and American Legion Post 198. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the Town of Ellington, Outagamie County. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established by the Young family. They would like to thank the staff of WI Veterans Home in King and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for all of the help and special care he received during his stay.
