Owen R. Nielson age 95 of Clintonville, passed away early Thursday morning, May 27, 2021 at Aster Assisted Living, Clintonville.
Owen Robert Nielson was born May 2, 1926 in the Town of Bear Creek, son to the late Oliver & Erna (Schindle) Nielson. He attended the one room schoolhouse in the Town of Deer Creek, and later graduated from Clintonville High School with the class of 1944. Immediately after graduation, Owen served his country on a naval vessel near the Philippines during World War II. After the war and an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Owen came back to area and was united in marriage to Elaine Rohrer, (formerly Baker), on August 24, 1946. He farmed in the Town of Deer Creek for many years, while also working as a lathe operator with F.W.D. Seagrave. Owen was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Clintonville Masonic Lodge #197, the American Legion Post #63, as well as serving as a past Grand Commander of the Knights Templar in Wisconsin. After his retirement, Owen enjoyed spending time at his home in Zephyrhills, FL where he was active with the clubhouse organization. He loved to spend time painting with oil on canvas, and was a skilled woodworker; making all of the frames for his paintings. He also liked to play Poker and spent some time hunting in his younger years. In 2013, Owen was able to take the Honor Flight, which was very special to him. He will be remembered as a man who could always answer your question and whether you believed him or not, he had an answer. Those who knew Owen, knew that you could never say no to one of his projects, but along with that was a work ethic, which throughout the years, rubbed off on family and friends.
