Reid A. Nelson

Reid A. Nelson, age 89 years, formerly of N9569 Walnut Rd. (Township of Bear Creek, Waupaca County) Clintonville, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass.
Reid Alfred Nelson was born April 16, 1917 in Iola to Lawrence and Anna (Schlichting) Nelson. As a young child his family moved to Clintonville and Reid graduated from Clintonville High School in 1936. For some years, Reid and his brother Christie, operated a slaughter house just outside of Clintonville in the town of Matteson. He began dairy farming in 1935 on Walnut Road and later went into raising hogs, working into his eighties. Shortly after retirement, Reid moved to Kindred Hearts of Clintonville and after one year there he settled at Pine Manor Health Care Center.
He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #197, Clintonville, and the Beja Shriners of Green Bay. He was a hard worker on the farm, but always made time to help out other people in need. In his early years, he enjoyed playing the violin and fishing in the stream out behind his barn. In his later years, Reid began traveling to several different states and especially liked going on bus trips with the bank.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth (Wallace) Felts of Culver City, CA, a brother, Arlyn (Myrtle) Nelson of Shawano, and a brother-in-law, Vernon DeWitt of Sayner, WI. Further survived by three nephews, two nieces, special friends, Cliff & Eileen Schlender of Clintonville, many other relatives and friends. Reid is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Christie, a sister Gladys DeWitt, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Nelson.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Rev. Leonard Snowden will officiate and interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. In conjunction with the funeral service, a Masonic service will be provided by members of the Masonic Lodge #197.
