Richard W. Smiley, age 67 of Marion, passed away late Saturday night, June 12, 2021 at his home.
Richard “Smiley” Wayne Smiley was born November 13, 1953 in Rockford, IL son to the late Ernie & Norma (Benson) Smiley. He attended Harlem High School in Loves Park, IL and later graduated. He started working at a young age, but after high school, drove short haul semi-truck for Chuck Bauer. He worked for a good while at Wisconsin Power & Light, now known as Alliant Energy, as a lineman. Smiley eventually found his way back into trucking, driving for Klemm Tank Lines, Shaw Flooring, and Saia LTL Freight until his retirement earlier this year. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, and operating his UTV around the Marion area. Smiley and Sally enjoyed camping in their pop-up trailer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, date nights with Sally, and always appreciated a good flat-top haircut. Smiley will be remembered for his sense of humor, and his many stories that would be told to friends and family multiple times, but they would be a bit different each time they were re-told.
