Ronald "Ron" Schertz Obituary

Ronald “Ron” William Schertz, age 66 of Bear Creek passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Ron was born on August 20, 1955, son of the late James and Joyce (Schultz) Schertz. He married Tina Nelson on May 23, 1986 and they welcomed a daughter, Amanda on August 22, 1986. Amanda was his pride and joy. He did everything with her from playing catch, to coaching little league, and then to walking her down the aisle. Ron worked at Miller Electric for 45 years before retiring in March of 2019. There he made numerous friends and always came home with some good stories. Ron loved to hunt and the walls in his home show that passion well. In early years he and Amanda would go shine deer every night. Ron would let her sit on his lap and take the wheel when they got into the driveway. She would aim for the mailbox every single time. In the past couple years he gave up hunting himself and took the grandkids. He was so proud when they got something and his smile said it all. Ron’s grandkids meant the world to him. He never missed a sporting event or concert that involved them. He was their biggest fan. Ron made it out to watch his granddaughter play softball this past summer which meant the world to her. If the grandkids wanted to play cards, Ron played cards, if they wanted him to drag every bike down from the barn, you better believe he brought every bike down, if the girls wanted to paint his nails he said paint away, and if they wanted ice cream for breakfast, he gave it to them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He was the true definition of the best grandpa. Ron shot pool on a Thursday night pool league; he and his son-in-law Nick were partners. Not sure who kept who out of trouble; they definitely kicked some butt though. Ron was the life of the party. If you wanted to have a good time just invite him along. Vacations were always interesting to say the least with him. He knew just how to make everyone laugh, even if it wasn’t on purpose. Ron’s love for his family shined through these past few weeks. He truly is a fighter and hero. The love and support his wife gave him this past year and a half is the true reason he fought so hard. She was his favorite nurse and he told her that numerous times. He was loved by so many and that love kept him fighting as well.

Ron is survived by his wife of 35 years Tina. Daughter Amanda (Nick) Miller and Grandchildren Parker, Brystol, Bailee, and Kenzlee Miller. Siblings: Kenny Schertz, Sandy (Jeff Paul) Young, and Doug (Janet Miller) Schertz. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents James and Joyce Schertz, and a brother-in-law Frank Young.
