Rose Mary Thompson
October 19, 1944- September 3, 2023
Rose Mary “Rosie” Thompson, 78, of Grand Chute, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023. She was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Aleck & Adeline (Behm) Portnoy on October 19, 1944. She grew up in Marion, Wisconsin with her brother and sister on the family farm. She graduated Marion High School as the class valedictorian in 1962.
Rosie always had a great eye for detail and design. She used those skills to work in the graphic design industry, initially in Neenah, Wisconsin at Banta Corporation and later, after moving to Atlanta, GA, at Critt Graham & Associates. She loved to talk about her time at both companies and the friendships that she made. While in Atlanta, Rosie was very active in the Clairmont Baptist Church and treasured her time volunteering through their community outreach and mission teams.
After Rosie retired, she decided to return to her roots and move back to Wisconsin. She enjoyed watching all the hometown teams- the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers- but a bit of her heart stayed in Atlanta with the Braves.
Rosie had a zest for learning. She would often spend her spare time researching topics of interest or reading books and was always willing to share a story or two.
Rosie is survived by her children, Derek Thompson of Sagle, ID, and Kendra (Sean) O’Connor of St. Petersburg, FL, and four grandchildren; brother James (Linda) Portnoy, of Tigerton, WI, as well as several nieces, nephews, and caring friends.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Beverly Aragon.
Per her wishes, no formal service will be held. The family will gather privately for a graveside interment at Greenleaf Cemetery in Marion, WI at a later date.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice for all the wonderful care provided to Rosie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rosie’s name to the American Cancer Society.
The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville is assisting the family.
