Ruth I. Smith, age 103 of New London, passed away early Saturday morning August 3, 2024 at St. Joseph Residence, New London.
Ruth Irma Smith was born October 20, 1920 in Appleton, WI, daughter to the late Paul & Meta (Scholz) Rohloff Sr. After her schooling was complete, Ruth went to work as a housekeeper and nanny for a physician who lived nearby. She raised the children and cared for the home. She provided this service for other families over the years and eventually moved into home cleaning full time. Ruth was united in marriage to Robert L. Scott Sr. on May 16, 1942 in Appleton. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm near Black Creek, WI for over 20 years. Ruth enjoyed her role as a farm wife, caring for their children, their home, and the farm animals. After Robert’s early death on July 4, 1969, Ruth continued on the farm for a time, but later lived in the Ogdensburg and Big Falls areas. She later married Eugene Smith on May 2, 1982 in Appleton. The couple spent much of their time at home, where Ruth tended her large garden. She grew both flowers and vegetables; canning much of the bounty produced. They also enjoyed transporting the local Amish families around the area. Ruth was a phenomenal cook, making meals not only for her family, but preparing food whenever family and friends would visit. She really loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whenever she could, and will be remembered for her caring nature and strong personality.
Ruth is survived by her children: Robert (Brenda) Scott Jr. & Susie (Jerry) Bedor
Grandchildren: David (Julie) Scott, Virginia (Tom) Ritchie, James ( Christie) Scott Jr., Tracy Wickman, Bradley (Angela) Scott, Stephanie (Peter Schott) Scott, Robert Scott III, Spencer (Baily) Scott, Jared (Lanae) Bedor, & Jacob (Brittaney) Bedor
23 great-grandchildren & 6 great-great-grandchildren
Sister: Marion (Richard) Hinz
Daughters-in-law: Carol Scott & Sharon Scott
