Edward “Ed” R. Krings, age 85 of Embarrass, passed away late Thursday, May 5, 2016 at ThedaCare Medical Center, Shawano.

Ed was born on October 17, 1930 in Auburndale, WI to Conrad and Emma (Ross) Krings. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1950 to 1953. The next 47 years were spent working in finance. He worked for Household Finance in Waukegan, IL and Central State Bank in Marshfield, before going to work for Wisconsin Finance as the Branch Manager of the Appleton office in 1959. He was promoted to Supervisor in 1962 and moved to Shawano where the home office of Wisconsin Finance was located. In 1973 he was hired by Shawano National Bank as VP Consumer Loans. He left the bank in 1988 and started his own business, North East Wisconsin Clerking Service. For the next 12 years, with the help of his wife, Lois, they clerked hundreds of farm auctions, and retired in 2000.

On June 6, 1953 he married Annamay Kerske in Marshfield, WI. Ed and Annamay had two children, Karyl and Donna, who died in infancy. Annamay had a terminal illness which took her life at the age of 39.

Ed and Lois Hackett were married in Shawano in 1967 and purchased a home in Embarrass and raised five children. Karyl Krings McGill, Wilton, CT, Jeannine Hackett Ruch (Joe), Embarrass, Michael Hackett, deceased, (Connie), Appleton, Patricia Hackett Rohan (Joe), Embarrass, and Gene Hackett (Jayne), Sobieski.

He is also survived by granddaughters Megan McGill (Matt) Spitzer, great grandsons Jack and Rhys, and great granddaughter Reagan, Springfield, VA, and Kerry McGill (Michael) Chmelik, Syracuse, NY, granddaughter Rachel Ruch (Travis) Herrmann and great granddaughter Ava, Embarrass, and grandsons Jonathon and Jayden Hackett, Sobieski, his sister Ruth Neadeau of Sacramento, CA, and many brother and sister in-laws, and nieces and nephews.

Ed had many interests and loves in his life, but never was he more proud than of his family. If Ed had lived long enough, he would have wallpapered his entire office with pictures of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. There wasn't a sport that Ed didn't love, but the Packers were always number one. He loved watching the Badgers, Brewers, Bucks and golf. Golf was also an activity for him, and he could be seen chipping in his back yard for hours, getting ready to win some money from his golf buddies. Ed loved his house, and specifically, his yard. He loved being on the John Deere, mowing and snowplowing. Ed had a special talent for woodworking, and when the Wisconsin winter set in, he would fill his time making animals, birds, and clocks to display and give as gifts. Politics gave Ed great pleasure. He was an avid reader and could debate on any subject. Ed also was a storyteller. He would recount stories of growing up, and escapades tracking down people who were late repaying the finance company.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife Annamay, daughter Donna and brothers Oliver, Elmer, George, Dale, his wife Lois, and son, Michael Hackett.
