Raymond Leroy Jannusch

Raymond L. Jannusch, age 87, of Marion, passed away Sunday morning August 2, 2015 at his home.
Raymond Leroy Jannusch was born January 15, 1928 at home in the Town of Dupont to the late Herman & Amelia (Miller) Jannusch. He attended Pioneer School. As a young lad, he worked on neighborhood farms. At age 17, he worked for Alfred Keller from 1945 until 1947, then worked for Atlas and helped at home. Ray was then call to serve in the anti-aircraft unit of the U.S. Army from September 19, 1950 until June 18, 1952. On March 6, 1951 he was deployed to Korea, and was injured by exploding artillery on October 1, 1951. He was treated in five M.A.S.H. units before being shipped to Kolbe, Japan, and was hospitalized until January 7, 1952. On his 24th birthday he was put on a boat and sent back to the States, to Fort Louhton, WA and Camp McCoy where he finished his service. Ray then returned to work at Atlas. In 1963, he started work as a welder at New London Engineering until his retirement after 29 years. Ray was united in marriage to Dorothea Dalum on July 12, 1968 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion, where the couple are current members. After retirement, he got involved with the Share Program & the food pantry. Ray was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 53.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Elizabeth (George) Nueske, Tress (Elmer) Froemming, and Mildred (Hayward) Millard; 2 brothers, Albert (Marie) Jannusch, Roy (Barbara) Jannusch; and a stepdaughter, Diane Groth.
Memorial services will be held 11 AM Thursday, August 6, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion, with the Rev. Bradley Dokken officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #198 of Marion, following the service. Inurnment will take place at Greenleaf Cemetery, Marion at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
