Glenn C. Cummings, age 81 of the Town of Belle Plaine, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton.
Glenn Clarence Cummings was born April 25, 1935 in Shiocton, the son of the late Edward & Regina (Dewyer) Cummings. Glenn graduated from Clintonville High School in 1954 and moved to Kaukauna to work at Thilmany Pulp & Paper. Glenn was united in marriage to Nancy Dobratz at St. James Lutheran Church, Shawano, on December 28, 1957. He then was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served with a missile defense/deploy unit based in Connecticut. Once his service was complete, Glenn and family moved back to the Kaukauna area to resume work at Thilmany. After 15 years in the paper industry, he took a position with the Kaukauna Park & Recreation Dept. where he was a valued employee because he was so versatile in completing any request that was asked of him. He retired from the City of Kaukauna in 1997 and moved to the Cloverleaf Lakes. Glenn had started a business called Cummings’ Stump Removal, also specializing in trenching and landscaping. He continued working hard well into his “retirement,” staying very active until only recently. Glenn was a member of the Belle Plaine Sportsman’s Club, the Clover Bares Snowmobile Club, the Cloverleaf Lake Association, and he also was very active with the Cloverleaf Lakes 4th of July Fireworks. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and loved to hunt with gun and bow; as well as camping with his family in his younger years. His pride and joy was his 1958 Lincoln Continental, in which he and Nancy would take to various car shows. Glenn was known for his trademark Saturday “Dump Run,” which would often be combined with a few tavern “sign ins” along the way. He loved to watch his Green Bay Packers or enjoy a NASCAR race, all while sharing his favorite brew with family and friends.
