This was quite a lady! I did not know her, but in looking at a "History of Marion" I noticed that Otto Papendorf also spelled his name on the Meat Market as Poppendorf. This is my mother's maiden name and her family was from the Marion area. My mother, Dala Poppendorf married Ervin Fischer, brother to Clarence, Melvin and others from the area. My mother's sister, Laura Poppendorf Liskow lived in Caroline for many years. I am just now getting into genealogy and was wondering if any of you, especially Murray, have done any research along these lines. I would be interested to see any family tree information you may have to compare it with my "Poppendorf" line. Thank you! Judy Morrison

I am saddened to hear about Alices's passing. I am a friend from many years ago to some of the Hagen family. God bless all of you at this difficult time, and know Alice was special to all of us that knew her.

Remembering you all as you tell Alice good bye. She was a brave and plucky woman. She handled her disability with such aplomb that you forgot she had a disability! We loved our times at her trailer on the farm--she was witty, perceptive, intellectual, spiritual, and absolutely matter of fact. She took life as it came and saw the silver lining of every cloud. I'm sure she was the most "techy" granny at the nursing home, but more than that, she was the most spiritual, I'm sure. Many will miss her, myself included.

I know Alice will be truly missed. Last few times I saw her in WI she would always tell me I looked younger each time. I had to smile. I was thinking about her not too long ago and wondering how she was. So sorry for your loss.

So glad for news, Allan, of our dear Alice. Acquainted with her while teaching at Indian Reservation, S.D. Alice often came down to Valentine, NE to visit the ladies and friends there, attend gospel mtgs and such. I visited Valentine often in those days and got to enjoy her friendship and company till her return to WI. She was a beautiful Lady! And loved her Faith. She will be missed by family and friends.
